Decorating
Is decorating Old Sanctuary easy?
The Old Sanctuary Auditorium has gorgeous bones! With the vaulted ceiling and wood paneling, there are no areas to hide or camoflauge. You will be pleased with how elegant even the simplest decorations will be at Old Sanctuary.
What decorating equipment is available?
At Old Sanctuary, you can decorate in a way that fits your personal style and taste. We provide tables and chairs, and you my rent linens (white, black, and ivory) from us. However, other items, such as archways, columns, etc... must be rented. We do provide an 8ft ladder.
General Questions
What decorations are allowed or prohibited?
All decorations must be freestanding. Nothing may be taped, stapled, pinned, or nailed to the walls. Helium balloons are prohibited.
How many tables and chairs do you have?
We have 320 padded restaurant-style chairs, 30 six-foot tables, 18 eight-foot tables, and 24 sixty-inch round tables. The 6-foot tables seat 6-8 guests, and the 8-foot tables seat 8-10 guests, and the 60-inch tables seat 8-10.
The tables are lightweight "Lifetime" tables, and are 30 inches wide. They do require wider clips for table skirting. These are available wherever you rent your linens.
What audio-visual aids are included?
There is a sound system in Old Sanctuary, and its use is included in rentals. We also provide a lectern and 1 microphone for speakers.
We have a video screen and projector available for rental. 220-volt power is available onsite.
What does the kitchen include?
The kitchen includes two refrigerators and a triple dip sink.
Rental Information
Can I book my event in advance?
Yes. We do not yet have a limit about how far in advance your event may be booked.
Do you have an hourly rate?
We have not established an hourly rate.
How much does it cost to rent the Old Sanctuary?
While specific pricing varies per day and usage, the most popular wedding package for a Saturday reception includes the whole weekend (Friday-Sunday) and is currently priced at $2,300. Your group will get keys Friday morning and can take the day to set up the banquet hall exactly the way you want it. Sometimes a rehearsal dinner is held here that Friday evening. Sundays are often used for gift openings and clean up. Old Sanctuary offers open catering so any food can be brought in at no additional charge! Old Sanctuary offers set up, clean up, and linen rentals for additional fees.

Do you require a deposit?
We require a signed contract and a deposit of full amount to rent / hold any date. This amount is typically held as a security deposit until after your event.
How long is a One-Day rental?
A 1-day rental begins at 8:30 a.m. in the morning and clean-up must be completed by 8:30 a.m. the following morning. You may not bring in items early, either to store or set up the day before your rental. Substantial multi-day discounts are offered for your convenience.
Wine & Beer License
Do we have to hire extra security if we have beer or wine at our event?
In general, no, but we do reserve the right to require extra security at certain events.
Does it cost extra to have a cash bar available for our guests?
There is a flat fee for bar service to staff your event. For most events that fee is $200.
How does the cash bar work?
You may pre-purchase beverages and host the bar (free for your guests), have a cash bar, or do a combination of both. In any case, we provide a server, cups and napkins.
How much do you charge for beer and wine?
The Old Sanctuary bar includes three keg coolers. In addition to wine and beer by the glass, you may purchase kegs to be served to your guests free of charge while supplies last.
May we bring in our own beer or wine?
No. Neither you nor your guests may "bring in" any alcoholic beverages. All wine and malt beverages must be purchased through Old Sanctuary even when you plan to serve, instead of sell, them to your guests. No such beverages may be "brought in" from outside, even if supplied by a caterer who also has a license or operating agreement with the city.
What time must the cash bar close?
In consideration for our neighbors, serving will conclude at 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and 10 p.m. on weekdays. (Some events have been "grandfathered in" to conclude serving at 11 p.m. and Midnight.)
What types of beer and wine do you offer?
We can get anything available through the Brookings Municipal Liquor Store. Approximately two weeks before your event, we will contact you to make arrangements and to see if you have special requests.
What types of beverages can be served or sold?
Only wine and/or malt beverages, such as beer and wine coolers, are allowed at Old Sanctuary. No "hard" alcohol may be served.
Do you have a bridal suite?
Yes! Access to large Bridal Suite is included in all wedding rentals!
